About Liese Kuhn

In 2016 Liese graduated cum laude from AFDA Cape Town. She continued to undergo scriptwriting training with Tracey-Lee Rainers, Ayanda Hilmana, Vicki Bawcombe and Matthew Kalil. In 2019, as part of 1 of fifteen women selected for the NFVF Female Filmmakers Program she furthered her directing training under the guidance of Lwazi Mvusi. In 2020 Liese was selected for the Durban Talents in co-operation with Berlinale Talents Program for a feature-length script she wrote titled Extravagant Ways To Say Goodbye. The script awarded Liese a scholarship to Sundance for script revision with Naomi Foner and Visual Directing with former chair of AFI Bill Dill. Liese was one of 22 participants selected for the DFM Access Program in 2021 for her series titled TWELVE. At the end of 2021 she was selected for the Durban Filmmart Alumni Business Lab which was a three month intensive on Tax and Entertainment Law, Marketing and Project Packaging as well as Business Strategy. That same year her short film Even Though I Ate The Cake was selected for the LA Independent Women Film Awards. At the start of 2022 Liese and Carolyn Carew were selected for JETS (Junior Entertainment Slate in Berlin) for her feature Extravagant Ways to Say Goodbye which was announced as one of the winners. Liese went on to direct her first feature film in September 2022; SECONDS — a sports drama starring Vusi Kunene and Mmabatho Mogomotsi which premiered on Amazon Prime on June 2nd 2023. Liese was selected for the Pavillon Afriques Accelerator Program at Marché du Film and attended and pitched at the film market in Cannes in May 2023. Liese has written for leading female centred Showmax shows and recently wrapped her second feature; Extravagant Ways To Say Goodbye which shot in the winter in Cape Town.

She participated as a mentee in the Jackson Wild Wildlife Filmmaking Program and attended the virtual summit — mentored by Love Nature’s Stephanie Atlas.
